Rooting For Me.
I've always been somewhat of a writer. An amateur at best, but that did anything from stopping me from writing. It started with writing short stories throughout middle school, especially during math or science class, even though I should've been paying attention to the Pythagorean theorem and cell theory. But writing was as natural as breathing for me; I could master all the different parts of literary elements, and every aspect of literature I was learning littered throughout my pieces of work. No matter if it's fantasy, drama, suspense, or feature writing, I write as if I'm experiencing the events myself, pulling and twisting the rules of literature to bring some words on paper to life. (Trying my best to stay objective during feature writing, of course.) I feel as though my end goal is to pull at the heartstrings of the reader or my subject, to make them feel seen, or to broadcast a part of them in a way they couldn't fathom. If that occurs, I must've done something right.
My Personal Narrative
My Scholastic media experience has been short, but honestly, one of the best experiences I have had in my high school career so far. During my Scholastic media experience, I'm able to do one of the things I'm most passionate about, which is writing, while also being surrounded by brilliant minds. Every critique, every mistake, every piece of feedback, every analysis is done with love and care, because we want to produce a book that the student body can enjoy and that every single person feels seen in some type of aspect. Because of the community that I've been welcomed into, my pieces of work have reached levels of success that I wouldn't have dreamed of becoming. I'm able to learn from other people while also teaching and honing new abilities to alter my craft in a more complex way if an idea doesn't work out or if something isn't necessarily feasible I'm not afraid to speak out and my community within the Marquee has always been understanding and with the connections that I've built with these people I'm able to be my true self which just creates emotional, heartwarming, gut-wrenching pieces of work. My literature continues to enhance continues to amplify and I'm able to produce stories where people are proud of me and feel like I told their story in the right way which is honestly just one of the best feelings that I have ever felt as a writer in my whole life and that wouldn't have been possible without the people in yearbook who have supported me throughout my first mod versus my latest feature story. And you can see the improvement. You can see the dedication throughout my work, and I couldn't have done that without my Scholastic media experience. I couldn't have done that without my teacher, without my peers, without my upperclassmen, because if not for them I would just be stuck in the same place, not elevating my journalism. I've faced challenges with trying to accumulate certain angles for feature writing to get in contact with subjects, and the yearbook has helped me overcome these said issues, time and time again, whether it's easy or not, and one thing that's admirable about the yearbook it's that we're always looking to improve. We're always looking to help each other out because, at the end of the day, we want to create a beautiful book where people want to see themselves in the yearbook.
